It's that time of year again and once again i am asking you to contribute to Special Gifts Theatre where my nephew's wife is now Executive Director. SGT's 5k run/ walk is a kick off event for the season that helps provide funding for their programs. Over the past 5 years, Special Gifts Theatre has grown by 40% and is continuing to grow thanks to your support... Since its founding in 2000, SGT has served over 2,600 individuals and has performed for audiences of over 30,000!
The continued support you have shown the students at Special Gifts Theatre is truly wonderful and your support does in fact make a difference. This year SGT has a record number of students registered in the programs offered, with all of them at or over capacity! For the most part, opportunities for kids with disabilities are often limited to weekly therapies and programs that teach them how to "blend in" to society. At SGT, they celebrate everyone's abilities, strengths, and contributions, giving them an opportunity to shine on stage for who they are and to experience therapeutic benefits with our team of professional staff.
Special Gifts Theatre (SGT) is an educational and therapeutic theatre program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. SGT uses the stage as a platform to develop social skills, speech/ language skills, and self-confidence. The growth and transformations that the students make over the course of the season is incredible! Plus, every student is partnered with a peer mentor and together they work to educate our communities about their abilities and breakdown stereotypes.
